I have been inspired by Thrifty Decor Chick to redo our stairs. Our carpet needed to go! She gave us step by step instructions how to tear out the carpet and paint and stain the stairs! With the detail she provided I was determined to do it!

BEFORE

|
Removed all the carpet and hundreds of staples. Tearing it out felt so good! Filled some holes with wood filler. Sanded everything! |
|
Applied 2 coats of stain and 1 coat of Minwax polyurethane. (it needs another coat of polyurethane) |
|
AFTER
Painted the risers, rails and trim white. I need to apply more white paint to the trim along the walls. |
This whole process took me about 7 days. I tried to paint or stain at night so it would have time to dry. I have another set of stairs that I need to do this to. It's tough when you MUST use the stairs while doing this process. AND I actually bought my electric sander at a garage sale for $5.
YAY!!!
Beautiful! They look just like mine that I recently refinished -- also inspired by Sara at TDC! You did a really great job.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous work! We're thinking about doing that to the stairs leading to the basement - but I'm afraid to see what's underneath the carpet!
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower, come and check my blog out. I am also a garage sale lover and I am about to start the same project. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteYay for you Jennifer!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just found your blog about 2 weeks ago, come check out my blog, still working on getting it where I want it. A girl after my own heart... I LOVE deals! And LOVE your staircase. We (my husband and I) are going to start this project, hopefully by Spring. The only downside to ours will be that we have a black wrought iron railing to contend with. My husband doesn't want to replace it. He likes the solidness(is that a word?!) of it. So I won't get the nice sharp contrast of the white spindles. My motto is work with what you have.
ReplyDeleteThey look GREAT!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, your stairs look AWESOME!!! great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look fantastic! I know it was TONS of work...I would love to see the NEW carpet and entrance way! I'll have to come over SOON!!! :)
