Treasure "Hunter"

Didn't expect to buy a GUN! YEP. Never bought a gun before!

It all started when I was planning my trip to a RePurpose Estate sale and I was showing my dad the online photos of the items up for sale. (you can preview upcoming estate sales in your area at www.estatesales.net) He was drawn to the photo of a gun because he collects them. He has said to me many times "you could buy me a gun for my birthday." Yeah right Dad, really... I never see guns at garage sales.

Now this was an estate sale!
I was IMPRESSED with the amount of OLD, OLD items. Antiques everywhere! I scooped up picture frames and skeleton keys.

There was so much to look at but I didn't see the gun. Maybe it was gone already. So I asked if the gun was still available. Well YES it was!! Cari told me that it is a Civil War era boot pistol.
(Turns out that it could be rare and hard to find.)

His love of guns started early, here he is (on the far right) in 1961 where he is proudly carrying his new gun that he received for Christmas.

I couldn't believe it was real. It looked like a toy! I just knew I had to get it. I felt it.
I couldn't set it down.
I couldn't believe I just bought a gun. (no bullets, of course).
Happy Birthday Dad. I bet you didn't think I would find you a gun.
It is priceless because he is going to love it!

Can you guess what this TREASURE HUNTER paid?
You will just have to watch 'Cash and Cari' on HGTV this summer to see!

friday favorites!

brand new HUGE umbrella $5 !

A friend of mine told me she was looking for old musical instruments, to use in decorating her walls for a themed room. Maybe I could keep my eyes open for a horn, etc. It was only two days later that I found this.
The man told me that he played it in high school.
She adores it and the price. YAY! happy customers!

My treasures last week!

My favorite Salvation Army find this week is this adorable Life Is Good® canvas tote for $2.99. I threw it in the washer and it is as good as new!

I got these items at a garage sale all for $2.00 !
50 cents each for the books, 25 cents for the Sequence game and 25 cents for the Golden Book. This one was printed in 1967. I like to find the "vintage" Golden Books but I don't plan on making a dress out of them like this designer did. WOW!

All of this was $7.50. I have a thing for measuring cups, spoons.
And my 3 year old is OBSESSED with Frosty. (Her birthday is in August and she wants a Frosty bathing suit. Do they even make such a thing?)  I got her a new Frosty ornament for 25 cents! The blue organizer tray was a steal for 25 cents! too cute!

I am ready to find more treasures this week!!!

5 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT GARAGE SALES

1. I love to find treasures to decorate our home. There are so many things I find at garage sales that I have never even seen before. I like to fill our home with meaningful items.

2. I love finding items that can be completely transformed with just a bit of paint! (even chalkboard paint)

3. I love to find wonderful, quality toys and clothes for my girls!

4. I love a fun day out, shopping with friends, meeting new people and snacking on sweet treats. The best garage sales have lemonade and cookies. I ALWAYS buy treats from the kiddos!

5. I love finding things I had when I was growing up or things my grandparents once had.
